Venus In Capricorn
A Heart of Stone
The planet Venus made its way into Capricorn on November 5th. Typically Venus stays in a zodiac sign for about 20 days. However, a semi rare retrograde happening in December will cause Venus to remain in Capricorn until March 6th, 2022.
Venus is the planet associated with love and beauty - be it sensuous or idealistic. Represented by the symbol for the biological female, Venus’ rich energy rules Taurus, Libra, and those of us who are ruled by the number 6.
Capricorn, the 10th sign of the zodiac is characteristically not a sign associated with beauty and sensuality. Quite the opposite actually. The sign of Capricorn is one associated with seriousness and maturity. Known as the purest of the earth signs, Capricorn
Symbolizes the serious outlook of maturity, but also an awareness of how the individual spirit relates to the Universe. Capricorns take a solid interest in money, sex and power.
Ruled by the energies of the disciplinarian planet of Saturn, Venus’ four month stay may appear more like a prison bid, but what it’s actually doing is bringing beauty and pleasure to the hardest and darkest places of our heart.
Home is where the heart is. Obviously our hearts are in our chests, which makes our bodies Home. If we take this very literall explanation a step further, that means every painful experience we hold onto casues the heart to harden spiritually, and reeks havoc on our physical bodies and our outward environment.
Hard heart - having or showing a lack of sympathy or tender feelings.
To lack sympathy or compassion towards yourself and others robs us of joy. Things that are less than pleasurable like death, breakups, arguments, health issues...they happen. Without a proper perspective on these experiences we can harbor the emotion from the pain longer than what was intended. The longer you harbor pain the easier it becomes to build your life and all the choices you make around that pain. You think you’re protecting yourself when in reality you’re only protecting a feeling. A feeling that causes you a constant cycle of pain.
Pain is just an indicator that something is happening. Same as pleasure. When we chase either one, instead of using them as useful indicators, we begin to loose the ointment needed to keep your heart soft. Before we even realize it we're dealing with a hard heart. When your heart is hard everything in life gets harder.
They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart.
Ephesians 4:18
This verse tells us that the condition of our hearts (if hardened) will make us ignorant to the natural instructions of life, making it dificult (if not impossible) to enjoy every day as it comes.
Ezekiel 36 goes on to say:
And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
God said he would give us a new heart. He said the heart that he provides will be a heart of flesh (soft) and not one of stone. A heart that can withstand any season of life with openness and grace. A heart that isn’t ignorant to His way of living.
Venus in Capricorn is a call to check in with our spiritual heart surgeon and get us a new one. With a new heart everything in life becomes new again. It gives new perspective on old pain, and allows us to see the beauty in the worst moments of our lives.
On November 8th I celebrated my daughter’s 20th birthday. That day also marked the 20th anniversary of my paralysis. A bittersweet day, but I tell you - for all the sad days I had during that time frame, to see my work as a mother mature so beautifully in my child and to feel the work of God in my own life mature the way it has, makes me look back on these 20 years with gratitude and compassion. I am truly grateful. And I’m learning to extend that gratitude to the other not so pleasurable moments of my life.
Astrology and God go hand in hand. I believe he created this science as a way to understand the spiritual times and seasons we experience in life.
If Venus is in Capricorn for the next 4 months then we need to pay attention to our heart space.
King David asked, “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me."
If King David, a person that God described as "a man after my own heart", is still asking God for a new heart, it only makes sense for us to ask for the very same thing. A new heart allows God to:
bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes
the oil of joy instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.
This season lets get real with ourselves and ask God for a new heart. We have everything to gain and nothing to loose but a heart of stone.
