New Moon In Taurus
The Calm Before the Storm
May 11th/12th @ 4:59 AM
Every 28 days the moon begins a brand new cycle in the sign where the sun currently resides. This moon cycle is anew in the sign of Taurus, and is here to remind us that God dwells among us in the dark places.
As I was preparing to write I was curious to see what others were saying about this Taurean new moon. Most speak about it’s “earthy chill vibes”. One article in particular caught my eye and spoke about the upcoming Eclipse season and how this new moon is a sort of calm before the storm. Tanaaz at Forever Concious writes:
While some New Moons are highly active and love for us to run with their fresh new energy, some are more passive, and require us to retreat and reflect on where we are at.
This Taurus New Moon is definitely one that calls for us to retreat.
Retreat. Not a word that I wanted to hear considering that I like most of you have been retreating for quite some time now. As I considered her words, contemplating on how exactly to be ok with retreating again, two Bible scriptures that I tucked away in my heart came rushing back to memory.
Genesis 1:2 - Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
And, 1 Kings 8:12 - Then Solomon said, “The LORD has said that he would dwell in thick darkness.
Both of these scriptures speak about God being ok dwelling in a dark place. These scriptures show that before He does the supernatural, or when He is among us, it isn’t a loud show of bright lights, glitz and glam. It's in a dark place, a setting most try their best to avoid. In the book of Exodus Moses engages with God in light form (the burning bush) and also in dark form:
The people remained at a distance, while Moses approached the thick darkness where God was.”
Exodus 20:21
The people who remained at a distance were described as afraid and because of their fear didn’t approach God. The people wanted no parts of God while revealing Himself in that dark state and ended up missing out on an incredible experience!
It seems to me that this new moon is giving us time to pause and get acquainted with the darkness we may have gone through.
I know for myself, the last 4 years have had intense moments of darkness that I often avoid reflecting on. Times of responding to someone else’s actions in a less than desirable display of emotion, remembering how much of a rush I was in to get through somewhere I didn’t want to be instead of doing my best with what I was given. Relationships that didn’t work out, loved ones that passed on, money frivolously spent, words left unspoken, and people who chose to leave me behind.
All parts of my life that caused pain - my way to deal with the pain was to get over it, learn from it and tuck it away. This new moon is calling us to untuck.
Use the energy of this Taurus new moon to ground yourself spiritually in order to review the dark reel of your human experience, whatever is revealed. During this time not only do I believe that God will help you through it, but you’ll begin to see that when it felt the darkest, God was actually right there with you.
He isn’t turned off by the darkness. His word says He dwells in it.
This new moon is calling us to do the same-maybe to instruct you on how to thrive in the years ahead.
Because here’s the thing...Genesis, 1:2 tells us that the earth was “formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep.” The very next verse tells us, "And God said, 'Let there be light,' and there was light." Right before God turned on the light to begin His work, He took a moment to dwell in the dark.
Perhaps He is wanting to do the same in you.
