Any Advice?
Ok I’m hoping to open up the floor today…never done that on my blog before so this will hopefully be interesting! (and hopefully people will post!!)
I’m pretty seriously considering running a half marathon (if I can do the half I may consider a full but that will have to be re-evaluated much, much later!). I love to run! Running is much more of a worshipful experience for me than excercise but I am feeling like I want to put a goal on it…you know, something to make me really be dedicated and also challenged (I work well when challanged…just ask my husband how much furniture I’ve built just because he said I’d need his help so I would need to wait on him to get home! No way buddy! Don’t tell me “I can’t!”). After my last 2 runs I have really felt like I could actually finish a half at some point. The heat has finally left SC so that helps too. So here’s what I know:
1. I’ve completed a 5k before. But the shorter distances have become more habitual and I’ve never tried a really long distance before.
2. My dad and husband completed Kiawai Marathon 5 years ago so I am surrounded by people I can ask for help.
3. I’ve been (kinda) regular running for the last few months…that means 3 days per week, longest runs on the weekend.
4. The prayer time I get running changes my perspective and keeps me so much more focused during the day. It’s almost like 2 different people on the days I run and don’t run.
5. I am clueless when it comes to suppliments…a banana is the best energy for me but I think there may be better things out there…maybe?
6. I’m only 30 but I have an abnormal sinus node in my heart so it beats pretty irregularly (annoying but the cardiologist says it most definitely will not kill me!). I also have 2 pins in my knee (because of a birth defect that they fixed when I was 11).
7. I have a pretty good bit of “me” time now that both of my kids are in school for at least 3 hours a day.
8. Myrtle Beach 1/2 Marathon is February 13, 2010 at 6:30 am. And early registration ends Oct 12th so I gotta make my decision by then.
So what do you think…can I do this? What do I need to know before I tackle it? Any Advice?
